“Sustainable Intermodal Drone Delivery Airline”
The project aims to research fully automated and intermodal drone networks and how they can be integrated into already existing logistics concepts. Through this the goal is to achieve climate-neutral commercial areas and improved B2B deliveries.

In collaboration with DanPilot, a concept is to be developed for how drones can optimize processes in ports and support the work of ship pilots.
Drones are to support pilots as flying eyes to assist incoming or outgoing ships in Danish ports. This is to be achieved through a high degree of automation in order to create a better and simpler overview.
“Rechtskonforme IT-Konzepte und -Lösungen für Verbünde autonomer Land-, Wasser- und Luftfahrzeuge”; Translation: “Legally compliant IT concepts and solutions for alliances of autonomous land, water and air vehicles”
The project aims to enable multimodal (land, water, air) vehicle networks to communicate with each other and with a control center and thus to carry out automated missions in real time.
To this end, the boundary conditions are first determined and missions are simulated before they are carried out prototypically in the real world. Conceivable subsequent use cases include logistics missions with routes shared by the vehicle network or the support of ship pilots.
The project is funded by Zentrum für Digitalisierungs- und Technologieforschungforschung der Bundeswehr (DTEC.Bw).
“5G Access to Public Spaces”
5G should help to divide environments into so-called three-dimensional cubelets and thus enable significantly better navigation and use of space.
Spaces opened up in this way allow, for example, improved navigation in all three dimensions or future applications in the field of industrial metaverse. The test site is the Deutsche Messe exhibition center in Hanover, which is already equipped with a campus network.
The project is funded in the initiative “5G-Umsetzungsförderung im Rahmen des 5G-Innovationsprogramms” by Bundesanstalt für Verwaltungsdienstleistungen.
Drones are used to measure the activity of bats around wind turbines in order to both prevent endangerment of the animals and to optimize the utilization times of wind farms.
Previous efforts by measuring with sensors directly on wind turbines or at ground level have not been able to fully capture bat activity because the ranges are too short. With drones, it is hoped to optimize the placement of new wind turbines to be built or to adapt the utilization times of wind turbines to the bats instead of having to shut them down across the board.
With the help of 5G technologies, possibilities for logistics via drones are being explored with the goal of maximum automated operation.
In the consortium led by the University of Applied Sciences Südwestfalen, many companies such as Koerschulte or the pharmaceutical trade Noweda, among others, are working together to exploit the possibilities of 5G technology, which is characterized by its low latency and high data transmission rate.

“Development of a UAV-based Gamma spectrometry for the Exploration and Monitoring of Uranium Mining Legacies”
In the project, a gamma spectrometer and our drone were to be used to record the radioactive radiation from old uranium mining sites in Central Asia (including Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan) and to map the old mining areas.
For this purpose, the Auriol flight platform was specially developed, which can withstand particularly extreme conditions such as strong winds or operating locations up to 2,800m above sea level, even with a payload of up to 8 kg. Furthermore, workflows and flight strategies were developed and pilots in the participating (Central Asian) countries were trained to carry out flights independently after the end of the project. The German partners received a total of 960,000 euros in funding.

“Urbaner Drohnenverkehr effizient organisiert”; Translation: “Urban drone traffic efficiently organized”
In order to be able to use drones safely and efficiently in urban contexts in the future, Third Element Aviation has participated in the development of a control center as well as providing drones for the prototypical implementation of a so-called U-Space.
3EA received funding of €578,000 from a fund of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure as part of the project. Over a period of three years, a technical and legal overall concept was developed with the partners of the consortium, which was to map all steps from the ascent permit to the monitoring of the flight of UAS in one software.

“Standardisierung von Unmanned Aircraft Systems”; Translation: “Standardization of Unmanned Aircraft Systems”
Together with partners, including RWTH Aachen University or TÜV Rheinland, basic standards and test procedures for drones were developed in this project to make them safer.
The market for industrial drones is expected to continue to grow strongly in the coming years. Therefore, this still quite young industry needs fundamental standardizations that can ensure safe and efficient UAVs. By participating in the project, 3EA was also able to make a substantial contribution to the state of the art in the drone industry.
